Review: let me start by saying that we are backpackers on a budget and have stayed in roughly 30 hostels/hotels around asia in the past 5 months so don't write this review lightly. if concrete is what you are looking for then this room is for u. the beds are ridiculously hard!! and yes we've slept on wooden beams with a foam mattress before and it was comfier! the staff are just plain rude and if you visit on a weekend then enjoy the noise! the hotel fills up with vietnamese people and they run riot around the floors leaving doors open and shouting to each other from room to room! if your not buying an overly expensive tour from them then the staff don't want to know you and aren't willing to help. no breakfast is provided or even available to buy and there are no restaurants or bars nearby that a western person will use. only a local italian which is way overpriced! the rooms are mouldy and half completed, sink leaked which the staff knew about as a large green bucket underneath takes pride of place in the bathroom, the toilet roll holder is hanging off the wall, the shower is sporadic and the doors are all mouldy so your room smells damp. the only plus side is the balcony. for those visiting halong bay dont come here to halong city go from hanoi as it is cheaper and believe it or not easier and safer. halong city is full of tourist scams and you will get ripped off. trust us we tried everything but then ended up going back into hanoi to go back to cat ba and halong bay. you can get a bus boat bus tour cheaper and easier from hanoi. we wish someone had written this for our reference!!

Review: My stay was okay. A staff member picked me up from the bus station, which was nice and offered me a tour. His English was great, but his tour booking - not so much. He conned me into booking a deluxe tour, one that was far from deluxe and overpriced, and I didn't get the tour I paid for nor did I complete my tour. I had to return early because he failed to professionally book my tour in advance with a secured company. I complained and received a partial amount of money back, only after countless hours of complaining and arguing back and forth with him. The experience was so horrible that I was just fed up and ready to leave town at this point. In regards to the room, it was decent for a one-night stay. There was a huge hole in the ceiling, and the A/C and hot water didn't work. The overnight staff spoke little English, so we didn't talk much and I didn't ask for much. My time at this hotel was memorable but not in a pleasant way. Never again!
