Review: Superb location …
Positive points: The location is very central to everything I wanted to see. Also Mr Harry was extremely helpful in arranging my tour of Vietnam, definetly a big help on his part

Review: The location is wonderful. Right next to the St. Josephs church, you are at the centre of the vibe of Hanoi.
Positive points: The staff was very attentive from the night we checked in to our checkout. Mr. Hong was always accommodating in everything we needed. If we asked for something that was not available, he found a way to help us. The breakfast was delicious with an array of choices to please all palates. Staff were very pleasant & friendly. The location was perfect & central to all activities. I would highly recommend this hotel & it certainly set the bar high for all our subsequent stays in Asia.

It had amazing location next to church which was beautifully lighted aswe were there just post Christmas u can hear the bells and the mass .walking distance from hoan keim lake.
Buffet breakfast average less vegetarian options. Room was b8g with 2 double beds .had hot water.
Staff was helpful and pleasant.
Nice shops close by.they have taxi service and provided us pickup also on request

Review: the hotel staff is very welcoming and helpful but the bad part is the hotel is just beside the famous church and the church ring the bell everyday at 0500hrs and it disturb our sleep.

Review: Good service, staff and convenient location.
Positive points: The staff are superb. Very kind, cheerful and helpful but good reviews are induced by gifts upon checkout and the Vietnamese (in general) are quite pushy in making you leave good reviews under their watchful eye. This will explain why the high number of good reviews for this hotel both on booking.com and Trip Advisor, will lead to some being bitterly disappointed and questioning their accommodation choices - as we did.
Negative points:
A collection of 4 budget hotels in a quiet side street on the edge of the Old Quarter near the Cathedral. There is no traffic on the street and all street noises (bars etc) stop by around 11pm. The four properties are called 'Splendid Star Grand', Splendid Holiday, Splendid Pearl and Splendid Group. We booked Splendid Grand and were put in Splendid Holiday and Splendid Group. The cathedral bells are very loud and at 07.30 every morning loud speakers nearby announce the news of the day for 30 mins.
Rooms do not match the pictures! The first room we were allocated was revolting - the drain in the bathroom stunk, the shower head was broken, the grubby front facing windows locked with padlocks, the floorboards not all stuck down and some missing with grime in all the gaps, the bedheads nailed together with plywood with horrible gaps between them and the wall, glass panels in the front door which made light from the passage flood into the room at all hours, and when my hands and face were covered in bites after night, suspect the mattress was infested with bed bugs. We asked for a better room and spent the remainder of our stay in a slightly better room in an adjacent building, though no less basic and not sure about the bed bugs.
A safe is provided but not bolted down rendering it utterly pointless. Windows must be kept locked but the maids kept leaving the balcony doors wide open. Luckily all items safe but there are notices warning about roof clambering thieves. I forgot to mention this at check out. Left luggage is stored in the lobby under the watchful eye of staff, not in a secure room.
My husband, who is in the UK Fire Service, was not at all happy with the fire precautions especially as an old (and disgusting) mattress was left on the staircase for a number of days blocking any escape routes.
Breakfast was interesting but well intentioned.
Review: We stayed at Splendid Grand Hotel and loved the experience. The facilities are not that great, but the staff are. Kudos to Mr.Dong he was a one stop shop for us. Call him prior to arrival and he can book all the tours for you in advance at a budget friendly price.

I was upgraded in a family room for 4 people, unneccessary. Being alone it would have been better to upgrade me in a more comfortable room rather than a bigger room.. However it would be unfair to complain for an upgrade...
Staff a bit pushy for excusions and hotel rating...
Review: Very good and helpful staff namely Mr. Dong, Harry, Kimmie, Brian and the staff at the restaurant. Very good and will recommend to anyone coming to Hanoi. Even though it is a 3 star hotel but the staff and service is 6 star. Keep up the good work.

Great stay at the Splendid Star Grand Hotel.
The room was quite small, but we had everything we needed. The bed was very comfortable and spacious. We had a fantastic view over the rooftops of Hanoi from the 8th floor.
The hotel is very well located, right in the heart of everything!
