Review: Extremely friendly staff, nice small hotel, location was perfect, very quiet despite its location

Review: We had a wonderful stay at this boutique hotel. Staff was warm and welcoming and breakfast was a beautiful fruit spread with bread and crepes. Would stay here again next time we’re in Hanoi.

Review: My husband and I loved the location of this small hotel in an alley just around the corner from St Joseph's cathedral. It was very handy to the sights of the old quarter and to the lake, but reasonably quiet. We had two stays as we did Halong Bay in between. I would recommend paying a little more for a Star Anise room, as it was bigger and much lighter than the Lemongrass room, and also had much better shower pressure (not sure if this applies to all the rooms). We had a room mix up when we arrived, which Michael and I discovered this was an Agoda system error (lesson - make your booking direct, or at least check with the hotel that there booking matches your Agoda one). Breakfast was lovely fresh fruits and yoghurt, tea and coffee, and eggs made to order. Crepes were a nice treat one morning (perhaps cereal could be a another addition?). Service was friendly and welcoming - Michael, Mien and the team were excellent. Would recommend this boutique, family-run hotel as it was great value for money.

Review: Fantastic location, down a side alley opposite Au Lac restaurant.

Our room, cinnamon, is on the 3rd floor. Big room, no view unfortunately, from the only window I could have reached out and touched the adjacent building.

WiFi worked very well, TV on the wall opposite the large comfortable was about the same size as a mobile phone held at arm's length, not sure what was available on it as we always take the Firestick which streamed perfectly via the WiFi.

Location is superb, right in the heart of the old quarter.

Breakfast is a very simple affair, toast, a choice of cooked eggs, fruits, tea and coffee.

The hotel itself is great value just don't go expecting anything more than a UK 1.5 star.

Staff were great, Michael arranged a transfer to/from Halong Bay and return airport transfer, everything else was via the 'grab' taxi app.

Review: I really enjoyed my stay in this charming little hotel located down an alley in the vibrant old quarter (about one block from St. Joseph’s cathedral). The alley is too narrow for cars, so my driver dropped me and pointed the way. The hotel staff is outstanding, -friendly and attentive - gave me great tips about things like the best vegetarian restaurants nearby. The room was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. My room was very quiet - I could not hear any other guest rooms.

The only negative is that this hotel is in a tiny building with 6 floors, and no elevator (except the dumb waiter they use to bring your bags up to the rooms), so if you are on a higher floor, you’ll get your exercise climbing the stairs. The dumb waiter helps them bring the bags up and down, but it is quite noisy, so they only use it during the day so it doesn’t disturb anyone’s sleep.

I would highly recommend Maison d’Orient if you want this kind of experience in the vibrant neighborhood of the old quarter.

Review: I love that the hotel located in the quiet alley but still in the middle of old town (which is really noisy) you can walk to every sightseeing spots in old town area from the hotel. And it’s the stylish place that made you feel like home :) staff also really nice. This is worth every cents!
