Review: although it's referred to as a homestay we were put in a separate building up the road. the owner is just interested in money. the first room was terribly noisy while the second room was still noisy but hot. the facilities are quite basic - the shower is over the toilet and the sink drains onto the floor.
Positive points: Good location, breakfast, excellent host and travel advice
Negative points: So-so wifi
Review: The house not shown a full house.. Only shown the room in the picture.. A bit horror from front of the house.. nNot suitable for muslim, the room put the jesus.. maybe the owner is christian..nHave to cancel once arrived and cant refund it, because already paid.. n n
Positive points: I took my husband and daughter to Smileys Homestay when we went to Brastagi and had the best time. Mr. Smiley took us all over Tongging and gave us several once in a life time experiences. When we return to Brastagi there is no question Smileys Homestay is where we will go.
Review: Dekat dengan town
Positive points: The bed is comfy, location quite near to town. Just 10-15 minutes walk.
Negative points: The staff hard to get in. When you wanna check in or check out, better tell them the time. I was waiting so long to check in and check out. No people in reception

Review: We had a great time at Smiley's Home Stay. Cecilia and Ismael welcomed us very well in their house. The shared bedroom is upstairs, where there is also a balcony and a small bathroom with toilet and cold shower. The homemade breakfasts on the terrace are delicious. Cecilia and Ismael are friendly and give good advice. They helped us to do activities in the area and to book transportations.
Positive points: Family helpful in all areas.
Review: I had a great time at Smiley's home! The family is very helpful and friendly and open minded. they have a great knowledge about the area and show you many beautiful places you must have seen in Berastagi. cecilia took me to the market. she cooks incredibly good, self-baked bread, banana pancake, many great local dishes and we had always fresh fruits.nSmiley took us to his local bar, where we sang together and drank from the local wine. We had a great evening. I can smiley's home stay 100% recommend. I felt at home.
Positive points: Lovely family that organized everything for me from transport to tours and amazing food!
Negative points: Nothing
Review: They are very welcoming, friendly and helpful family. Love the food Cecilia served. I had great time staying here.
Positive points: Smiley is a great source of practical advice for the area and extensive lore from his world travels and trades (carpenter, electric bass and sitar playing, etc.). He took us on a nice sunset walk around the Gundaling hill above the town. Later, we hiked with him and the ever-faithful Dodo to the volcanic vents of Mount Simiyak, with Sinabung visible in the distance, collecting sulfur samples and encountering Thomas' Leaf Monkeys along the way. (Bring an egg--you can cook it in the boiling pools at the top!) Finished soaking in the hot springs ranging from warm to hot to scalding. Best of all is the fantastic cooking of his lovely wife Cecilia--from fresh-baked goods and local fruit for breakfast along with french-pressed Sumatran coffee, to a variety of sumptuous Indonesian dishes for supper, including the best Rendang I have had anywhere (including Padang). If you're lucky you may get to participate in one of her English lessons she gives local students.
Review: Cecilia and Smiley were super welcoming and kind. She cooks delicious local food and gave us great tips for activities. nSmiley did a great volcano sunrise tour with us. Meanwhile there is a separate bathroom for the guests.nWe really enjoyed our stay!
